Peugeot 206 keyfobs can have the button-cell battery fails. This video explains how to replace the battery.
The Immobilizer System
When you turn and insert your Peugeot key, it transmits a code electronically to the engine control system. If the code doesn't match, the engine will not start. This can prevent unauthorised car theft. If you're experiencing issues with your Peugeot car immobilizer, a reputable locksmith for automotive can assist. They can program a replacement or new key using tools that are standard for dealers. This can save time and money. They will also be there for you so you won't have to spend a long time in the dealership.
Not all antitheft gadgets are created to be the same. G28 anti-theft technologies and evaluates them to ensure they meet high safety standards. They can test the operation of the system by logging into the CAN bus and then reading messages that the immobilizer components exchange.
But even the best systems can be hacked in the right way if they are targeted. In one study, Jan Bokslag used weaknesses in Hitag2's protocol to crack 3 cars that were all older models. In a matter of ten seconds, the vehicle security code was retrieved from one of them. This data is then used to generate a working key that disables the immobilizer. The other two were harder to crack, but they did eventually become broken.
The Immobilizer Chip
A chipped key (often known as a Smart Key) has an RFID microchip inside that communicates a passcode to the car's immobilizer system. If the code contained on a chip is identical to the code in the immobilizer system of the car, the car will start.
This is a crucial anti-theft device that prevents car thieves from hotwiring or bypassing the immobilizer system of the engine. If the immobilizer doesn't recognize the key, it will not allow the engine to turn on even if someone is trying to short-circuit the ignition circuit.
Modern cars come with advanced electronic Engine Immobilizers that make use of changing or rolling codes. The intelligent system will change the second code each time the key's used and insert it into key's chip. The first code is always in place and the immobilizer scans the codes each time the ignition key is turned.
This is a highly advanced technology that is extremely difficult to hack. This is the reason why many stolen vehicles can't start. If your Peugeot starts and then stops then it's not the immobilizer. It could be one of a myriad of electrical issues that have caused the car to stop working. Our auto locksmiths are able solve these issues. They can also reprogram chipped or smart Peugeot Key to make it work again.
The Battery
The transponder chip inside Peugeot car keys, when used with the vehicle will disable the immobiliser system within the ECU. This enables the vehicle to start, and also allows key fob access to the doors and boot. The chip is concealed in the head of the remote key or manual key.
When the 206 was first introduced in 1999 Peugeot was faced with a fierce competition from superminis like the Ford Fiesta and Volkswagen Polo. The unique approach of Peugeot's 206 was that it did not directly replace the 205, instead it was designed to be a bridge between the smaller Peugeot 106 and the larger range of 306. The lower models of both the Peugeot 306 and 106 were developed to take sales from the more expensive 205s.
The 206 range comprises two doors: a hatchback, a coupe cabriolet, and an a-station wagon referred to as the 206 SW and CC respectively. The 207 GTi was a WRC homologated version of the 206 that could go from 0 to 100 km/h in just 7.4 seconds, and achieve a top speed up to 210 km/h.

To ensure that the new key is working correctly, test it inside your vehicle. Make sure all doors are closed. Turn the ignition off and press the lock button twice on the key fob. If the LED stops blinking, it is working. If it does not work, you may have forgotten to transfer the transponder chip from the old key to your new key.
